Question of the Day: Do you think that portable devices such as smartphones, ipods, game boys, etc. have value for education? Should they be banned from school or used to enhance education?

Yes they do have a value for education because it gives us the opportunity to research something right on the spot. No they should not be banned from because if thats the case then everything that deals with technology has to go. The teachers technology shouldn't be allowed either, its only fair if we do it that way.

  • Data Transfer - 1962
  • Computer Network - 1969                                                                                                                    -Computer Network was invented by Advanced Research Project Agency.
  • Email - 1972                                                                                                                                     -The first email message he sent out of the lab was to the rest of his group announcing the existence of network email and explaining how to use it, including the use of the @ sign.
  • Web Browser - 1973                                                                                                                             -Web Browser is a software application for retrieving, presenting, and traversing information resources on the World Wide Web.

Question of the Day: How is technology woven into your life? Do you socialize different online and offline? Or do you socialize the same way?

Technology is all around us. The way you socialize may and may not be the same on the computer. I socialize different on the computer when I'm talking to my friends but if im talking to someone or doing something important then I change the way I talk.

Monday, February 14, 2011

Try your hand at writing a similar “love letter” to the piece of technology that means the most to you, whether it’s an iPod you own or a computer, television, camera, or cellphone you covet. Like David Pogue does, address the device directly and describe the details that make it “something special” to you. (You needn’t write about the tech specifics of the device unless you want to; instead, you might concentrate on how this device improves, or could improve, your life.) Write three paragraphs supporting your opinion. Post it on your Blog.

Dear Ipod,

The way you play the music I love so loud in my ears makes my heart melt. I love the way that you are touch screen just so that I can  feel your every function. The way you download so many apps without a problem is so amazing. I love you wifi connections to any wifi connector just so that I can surf the web. I can put you on shuffle and go a whole day listening to you. With your 2way camera I can take photos of my self and my friends. I can also record all the good moments that I have with my loved ones, even you.

I love the way that I can watch videos on you, and play games that are really fun and keep me busy. With you in my life I dont think that I would ever get bored. You just have so many things that I can do with you. I could even get on Facebook and email my friends. Just know that I love you and I would always protect you with a case and a screen protector. I would not let you fall into the hands of someone that would abuse you. I would make sure that I wont lose you and make sure you stay close to my heart and in my hears.

I LOVE YOU IPOD !!! <3 <3

                                                                                                                            Love your one and only,
                                                                                                                                              Tyesha Joiner

Question of the Day: Watch "How the Internet Works in 5 Minutes" & "World Wide Web in Plain English" Write an essay that answers the questions. What is the Internet? What makes the Web work? How are packets delivered using IP addresses and Web browsers?

The internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standard Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) to serve billons of users worldwide. The phone and cable wires are the things that make it work. Its something that translate something into a language so that we can understand it and the web can also and it is called a server. Packets are delivered using ip address and web addresses by sending messages. Then it must be transmitted over whatever kind of wire connects your computer to the internet. Therefore the message must be translated from alphabetic text into electronic signals, transmitted over the interne, then translated back into alphabetic text, this is called the protocol stack.

Networking Basics

Lesson 1:
  • Computer networks share information, equipment, accessibility, and the internet.
  • The different types of networks are The LAN, The WAN, and The internet.
Lesson 2:
  • Networking the office is the ingredient for success.
  • Network can, can fulfill is by sharing equipment and improving technology.
Lesson 3:
  • A sneaker network is a
  • A peer to peer network stores their files on their own computers. Anyone on the network can access files stored on any other computer.
  • Some advantages and disadvantages about a peer to peer network is because files are stored in many different locations, it can become difficult to back up and protect your computer. While an advantage is that if one computer malfunctions, the rest of the networks will not be affected.
Lesson 4:
    • A client network is any computer on a network that request information stored on a network. A server network acts as the central computer and stores the file that need to be stored on the network.
    • A client/server network requires a server and a network operating system like Novel NetWare or Windows NT.
    • Some advantages and disadvantages of a client network is that software applications and databases can be easily added and centrally stored and accessed from the server, and if the server malfunctions, the entire network will be affected.
    Lesson 5:
    • An ethernet is the most popular and least expensive way information can travel through a network.
    • An ethernet works by a computer listening to the network channel, and if no other device is using the channel, an Ethernet device sends its data.
    • An ethernet can go as fast information travels from PC to PC around the network depending on the network's bandwidth.
    Lesson 6:
    • The reason why people use remote access is because it extends your business so that communication can occur everywhere anytime.
    • The levels of remote access are through Windows NT or a remote access server and modems for people at home or on the go.
    • A remote access server works by answering call and verifying that the remote user is entitled to enter the network.
    Lesson 7:
    • Some factors you should consider before extending your network is that you'll need to connect additional users ant transmit larger volumes of information to one or more locations.
    • Types of equipment available to extend the network is peripherals seres, file server/remote access server, routers and lastly hubs.
    Lesson 8:
    • Some factors that should be considered when designing a network is sharing information, sharing equipment, sharing internet access and lastly sharing accessibility.

Question of the Day: How does technology cast its shadow over you and/or society?

It takes away from us using our brains in certain situations.
