Tell us about the side effects that your digital life is having on your real life, if any. Do you find yourself, for example, feeling left out or jealous of your friends’ activities when you look at Facebook? Are you having trouble remembering material when you interrupt your studying by checking in online? Do you or your parents ever worry about how much time you spend texting or on the Internet?

I really dont have any side effects from my digital life on my real life because I dont mix them two together. I mean its real life that your on the computer so I dont see how its two different lives. You should be your self on the internet or any other digital devices not someone you not. I dont get jealous when my friends post activities up on their Facebook's because I'm mostly with them so im involved in some of those events. I mostly know what my friends are doing before they even do it or post it on the internet.

I really don't be on the internt that much because it doesn't run my life. I be on from time to time. I dont need Facebook to tell me things. I dont check in on the computer while I'm doing work so I dont tend to forget things. Its kind of too much  work to do all that in that time period. If im trying to finish my home work or something then I wont get on the computer I would wait until I finish my work.

My parents do worry about how much time I spend texting because I rarely get on the computer. They just want to be noisy sometime though. They really dont involve it in my grades because they know my grades are good. They really dont have much time to check up on me all the time to weather or not im on the computer or texting. So its mostly up to me weither I'm making the right decisions.

Question of the Day: (100 Points) Watch the video: What is wrong with the way kids are educated today? Why is school often considered boring by students? How should the educational system be changed to meet the needs of the 21st century economy? Why do you think that eduction needs to change?

I dont think that there is something wrong with the way kids are educated today because it depends on whether the child is paying attention or not. The teachers do their jobs and so the students should do their work. School is considered boring by students because the teachers are teaching them what they need to know and what they are interested in. Some students are interested and some are not. Some teachers make learning fun and some dont. I dont think that the teaching system have to change because they are doing what they have to do to get students to learn and if that student dont want to learn then its on them and their future.

Question of the Day: Watch the video above: What would you like to have a robot do for you? Do you think it will be possible some day?

I would like to  have a robot to clean up my house when I am not home. I do think it is possible just because of the technology we have in this century.

Question of the Day: Watch the Video Above. How do you feel about devices that track your every move? Is this a good thing or an invasion of your privacy? Would this stop you from using these devices?

Its a good thing in certain situations like if your lost or something happen to you and you need help, but if its just to have on somebody then it is invading privacy. It would definitely have people stop using devices and then there would be no money being spent or made.

Question of the Day: Watch the Video Above. Read : Whose Fault Is It if a Child Is Failing in School?

I think that its the parents and the students fault because the mother/father should be on their child's grades when they are young so that they would understand that school is very important. If the parent is not doing that then they wouldn't know how to keep their grades up. Its not right how in some countries the parent is getting fined for their child failing. I just think that they should try to have a conference with the parent to see if there is something going on at home.

Its sometimes not always the parents fault because some children either dont have parents or have parents that dont care. If the child was brought up the right way then they would know what they have to do with out their parents being there. Once that student gets into the 6-12 grade the parent shouldn't have to be there to tell their child to do their homework. That student should be able to go home and do his/hers homework on their own without being told.

Its mostly on responsibility because if you are responsible for something then you should take account for it. They shouldn't be able to grade parents, they have way more other stuff to be focusing on than being graded on. The parent works as well and have to pay rent and put clothes on their children's back and feed them as well. Worrying about the child's grade is just one more thing added on their list of responsibility. So the child should be able to have responsibility for school on their list if they're old enough to handle it by themselves.

Question of the Day: What game did or do you have the most fun playing? Describe why this game is so much fun? It does not have to be video game.

The game I like to play the most is a card game and its called spit. Its fun because its a fast past game and you have to play to win. It gets you excited and amped up. I like that game a lot.

Question of the Day: "Music and Technology"How has technology changed the way people listen to music? What are the pros and cons of these changes?

Technology made it so that we can listen to music on the go now. To me there are really no pros or cons its just easier and simple. I mean some people say that it can make you go death but hey if you want to listen to music then you wont care.

Question of the Day: Watch the video and answer the question. Do you think what the girls are doing is just a harmless joke or very cruel? What would you do if you saw someone being made fun of online? Would you say something to the person or persons doing this? What would you do if they asked you to help them? Write a detailed response of at least one paragraph.

I would most definatly say something to who ever is bullying someone in person or on the computer. Its not funny to do something like that just because you think its cool and you"ll get all the attention. Those girls were wrong for what they were doing. Those were not harmless jokes, and for that man to participate in it and call somebody that he never even seen before ugly was wrong of him. He should of stoped those girls instead of clinging along with them. If I was asked to help I wouldn't, I would of told them to get out of my face and give them a piece of mind about it and then tell the manager of the store to kick them out. Its just not funny or nice to pick on someone because you never know what they might do to you or themselves and then what ever they do your responsible for it. The consequences can be harsh.

Question of the Day: Tablets that take orders, entertain guests and accept check payments are coming to a table near you. What do you think are the pros and cons of using tablets at restaurants and other retail stores? How do you think this will affect you both as a patron and a worker?

The pros are that it would be faster but the cons is that if a person have a question about the entree that they are ordering the tablets wont be able to answer it.

Question of the Day: If you were the Principal, what would you do with students that wear clothes that violate the dress code policy? Should there be exceptions to the rule? What do you think would be a fair dress code?

I would do the same thing that the principal at this school do, send them straight home. If they come another day and violate the rules then I'm going to have to give them ISS. Then the third time I will have to call for a parents conference.

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

Question of the Day: If you were the Principal, what would you do with students that are constantly late to School or Class?

I would give them a warning the first time and then the second time I would give them detention and then the last time I would have a meeting with their parents about whats going on.

Question of the Day: What is an event? How can events be signaled? Describe IN YOUR OWN WORDS how sprites use events to communicate. How are events like Social Networking?

An event is something that sends a message to one thread to another. Events can be signaled by putting a when command on top of it. So  the scratch sends a message to that command on when to start or to do a certain task. Events are similar to social networking because we get the chance to send messages to one another telling each other what to do or whats going on.

Thursday, April 14, 2011

Question of the Day: What is a thread? What happens when you use multiple threads? What label begins a thread in Scratch? Why do you think you should use separate threads?

a thread is like a mini-program within a program that can execute at the same time as other threads.A program with multiple threads, then, can do multiple things at once. The when command starts a thread in scratch. You should separate it when you want you sprite to do something at one time.

What are some of the problems that you face as teenager as a result of Social Networking? This would include using social networking sites, like Facebook and Twitter, Instant Messaging, SMS and or Text Messaging. How does interacting 24/7 affect the way you think and communicate? Does social media affect your school work in a positive or negative way? Do you agree or disagree with the author of this article that Social Networking affects both your writing skills and social manners? What do you think? Make sure to defend your position.

Some of the problems that we face as a teenager on a social network is the fact that we spend most of our time on it than any other thing in life. We tend to spend more time on Facebook, Twitter, and any other website than we do on our homework. It also affects the way that we communicate with people because of all the abbreviations that we use. It is causing a problem that no one can really solve. Some people can't go without having their phone or computer in their life. I connects them to the world around them and it get them to know the latest scoop.

While using the computer we may forget how to communicate with someone in a proper way because of the abbreviations that we use. It may be hard and take a while to type in a correct proper manner. Sometimes it do happen to people who are writing essays for school and they put in a texting form of writing in their essays. Social media affects our school work in a negative way because students may not be able to get their work done with Facebook or any other website sitting right in front of their face. Its like it hypnotizes you to be on it and find out everything and talk to who you want.

I agree with the author that social networking affects both your writing skills and social manners because it truly does. People may not realize it but it is. Its causing a major problem that is affecting us in school and in our daily social life. I think that maybe people should start spending a little bit more time with their family and friends. Students need to concentrate more on their school work and stay more focused in class. People should be able to cut back on the internet usage not saying that you have to completely drop it from your social life but just put it to the side every once in a while. Maybe if every one do that then maybe the social network won't affect us as much as it is doing now.

Question of the Day: Read: Variables What is a variable? How are variable represented in Scratch? What are the two types of variables and how can they be used? What is a Boolean variable?

A variable is a placeholder for some value, much like x and y are popular variables in algebra. In Scratch, variables are represented with blocks shaped like elongated circles, uniquely labeled by you. Variables, generally speaking, can be local or global. In Scratch, a local variable can be used by just one sprite; a global variable can be used by all of your sprites.

Question of the Day: Read: Conditions - What is a condition? What are some statements of a conditional construct? What happens when you use the if construct? What happens when a construct is nested

A condition is something that must be true in order for something to happen. In Scratch, any block whose label says "if," "when," or "until" is a sort of conditional construct. When you use the if construct it can instruct a sprite to say hello.

Question of the Day: Why do you think eating or drinking is not allowed in the classroom? Why does eating or drinking not go well when working on a computer?

I think that eating or drinking is not allowed in the classroom because the teacher does not want you to. The teacher knows that this school have rats and roches and they just  want them to come out. It does not go well with computers because we may spill the snack and make a mess and break the computer.

No because its a video game that has no educational meaning to it. Its either you getting away from the little monsters or its you fitting pieces together.

Friday, March 25, 2011

Question of the Day: Tell us what you think about parents sharing their family-related frustrations, concerns and stories with online readers. Should they obtain their spouses’ and children’s permission first? Would you approve or disapprove if your mother or father were sharing stories about you online – in, say, a blog, or on Facebook or Twitter? What ground rules would you want your parents to agree to? How protective are you of your privacy?

I do not think that, that is right because anything that happens in the family should stay in the family. Everybody does not have to know what you are going through especially people online. Yes they should ask us for permission because thats our personal business and if we think that people shouldn't know then they wont have the chance to know. I would most definitely disapprove, I would be hurt in the process because that would be embarrassing for everyone to know. I would want my parents to ask me if it is okay to put something about me on the internet and if I think it is okay then they could. I am very protective of my privacy because no one should know my personal business but me. If I want to tell you about it then I would.

Question of the Day: Do you think modern technology reduces or increases cheating? Why?

It all depends on if your taking that test on the computer then it would soon lead to someone cheating. If the test is not on the computer then no.

Friday, March 18, 2011

Question of the Day: Should you spy on your cheating bf (boyfriend) or gf (girlfriend)? What would you do if you caught your bf (boyfriend) or gf (girlfriend) spying on you?

No I don't think that you should spy on your cheating bf because if you know he is cheating then you should break up with them. Theres no point to waste your time on spying when you already know. If I caught my bf spying on me I would break up with him because he didn't trust me. I would also give him something to watch.

Monday, March 7, 2011

Question of the Day: Have you ever learned a foreign language? How do you think learning computer programming will be like learning another language?

Yes I did learn a foreign language in school. It would be like learning another language because it would be words that you don't know and you would have to learn.

Friday, February 25, 2011

Question of the Day: Do you think that portable devices such as smartphones, ipods, game boys, etc. have value for education? Should they be banned from school or used to enhance education?

Yes they do have a value for education because it gives us the opportunity to research something right on the spot. No they should not be banned from because if thats the case then everything that deals with technology has to go. The teachers technology shouldn't be allowed either, its only fair if we do it that way.

Try your hand at writing a similar “love letter” to the piece of technology that means the most to you, whether it’s an iPod you own or a computer, television, camera, or cellphone you covet. Like David Pogue does, address the device directly and describe the details that make it “something special” to you. (You needn’t write about the tech specifics of the device unless you want to; instead, you might concentrate on how this device improves, or could improve, your life.) Write three paragraphs supporting your opinion. Post it on your Blog.

Dear Ipod,

The way you play the music I love so loud in my ears makes my heart melt. I love the way that you are touch screen just so that I can  feel your every function. The way you download so many apps without a problem is so amazing. I love you wifi connections to any wifi connector just so that I can surf the web. I can put you on shuffle and go a whole day listening to you. With your 2way camera I can take photos of my self and my friends. I can also record all the good moments that I have with my loved ones, even you.

I love the way that I can watch videos on you, and play games that are really fun and keep me busy. With you in my life I dont think that I would ever get bored. You just have so many things that I can do with you. I could even get on Facebook and email my friends. Just know that I love you and I would always protect you with a case and a screen protector. I would not let you fall into the hands of someone that would abuse you. I would make sure that I wont lose you and make sure you stay close to my heart and in my hears.

I LOVE YOU IPOD !!! <3 <3

                                                                                                                            Love your one and only,
                                                                                                                                              Tyesha Joiner

Question of the Day: How can the internet help you to learn? What do you do to take advantage of this?

The internet can help you learn by teaching you things that you didn't know. If you research something that you want to find out then you would find out something that you didn't know. We take advantage of it because we really dont use the internet for learning we use it for our social life and other things like that.

Question of the Day: Today is Safer Internet Day. What can you do to help make the Internet safer?

You can try not to send out your personal business and talk to people that you dont know. If your a minor or is under age then you can have a parent look over what you are doing on the computer. Have fun byt be smart about your decisions that you make on the computer.

Monday, February 7, 2011

Question of the Day: Watch "How the Internet Works in 5 Minutes" & "World Wide Web in Plain English" Write an essay that answers the questions. What is the Internet? What makes the Web work? How are packets delivered using IP addresses and Web browsers?

The internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standard Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) to serve billons of users worldwide. The phone and cable wires are the things that make it work. Its something that translate something into a language so that we can understand it and the web can also and it is called a server. Packets are delivered using ip address and web addresses by sending messages. Then it must be transmitted over whatever kind of wire connects your computer to the internet. Therefore the message must be translated from alphabetic text into electronic signals, transmitted over the interne, then translated back into alphabetic text, this is called the protocol stack.

Networking Basics

Lesson 1:
  • Computer networks share information, equipment, accessibility, and the internet.
  • The different types of networks are The LAN, The WAN, and The internet.
Lesson 2:
  • Networking the office is the ingredient for success.
  • Network can, can fulfill is by sharing equipment and improving technology.
Lesson 3:
  • A sneaker network is a
  • A peer to peer network stores their files on their own computers. Anyone on the network can access files stored on any other computer.
  • Some advantages and disadvantages about a peer to peer network is because files are stored in many different locations, it can become difficult to back up and protect your computer. While an advantage is that if one computer malfunctions, the rest of the networks will not be affected.
Lesson 4:
    • A client network is any computer on a network that request information stored on a network. A server network acts as the central computer and stores the file that need to be stored on the network.
    • A client/server network requires a server and a network operating system like Novel NetWare or Windows NT.
    • Some advantages and disadvantages of a client network is that software applications and databases can be easily added and centrally stored and accessed from the server, and if the server malfunctions, the entire network will be affected.
    Lesson 5:
    • An ethernet is the most popular and least expensive way information can travel through a network.
    • An ethernet works by a computer listening to the network channel, and if no other device is using the channel, an Ethernet device sends its data.
    • An ethernet can go as fast information travels from PC to PC around the network depending on the network's bandwidth.
    Lesson 6:
    • The reason why people use remote access is because it extends your business so that communication can occur everywhere anytime.
    • The levels of remote access are through Windows NT or a remote access server and modems for people at home or on the go.
    • A remote access server works by answering call and verifying that the remote user is entitled to enter the network.
    Lesson 7:
    • Some factors you should consider before extending your network is that you'll need to connect additional users ant transmit larger volumes of information to one or more locations.
    • Types of equipment available to extend the network is peripherals seres, file server/remote access server, routers and lastly hubs.
    Lesson 8:
    • Some factors that should be considered when designing a network is sharing information, sharing equipment, sharing internet access and lastly sharing accessibility.

    Part 3 of Mid Term

    Part 2 of Mid Term

The reason why it is so much harder for a computer to compete on jeopardy than to play chess is because chess is stored into the computers system and it only has to worry about using math. With the questions that are asked on jeopardy the computer may not understand what is asked or may not know certain words.

Watson works by running many algorithms at once, that govern how it processes the language. The computer then learns, by checking its algorithms against the answers it gets. In that sense it studies in a similar way to humans.

Yes i think this is a good idea because when ever you need help the computer would be there to help you. It would help but then again hurt people because it may out smart people to where we wont be able to do anything. No i do not think computers  would take over the world because we control the computers. Without us the computers wouldn't even be turned on.

What is computer programming? How do bits and bytes allow computers to understand instructions?

Computer Programming is the process of designing, writing, texting, troubleshooting and maintaing the source code of computer programs. The purpose of programming is to create a program that exhibits a certain style and behavior. The process of writing a source code often requires many different styles, including knowledge. Programming creates a sequence of instructions to enable the computer to do something.

Writing computer programs means writing instructions, that will make the computer follow and run a program based on those instructions that were given. The program instructs the computer in a language that it understands. There are several types of programs for the computer, such as the word processing, data base, spreadsheet, research and etc.

Bits and bytes allow computers to understand information because both terms refer to digital data transmitted over a network connection. And they both may represent network addresses or different port numbers. NOT gates work by taking one bit as a input and produces as an output. And a AND gate is a digital logic gate that implements  logical conjunction. It behaves according to the truth table. And lastly ad OR gate is when the output is high when either or both of inputs A or B is high.

Question of the Day: What effect do you think Martin Luther King Jr. had on your life? How is his message still relevant? Or is it? Why?

The effect that i think Martin Luther King Jr. had on my life is the right to be free and have our rights as people. His messages is still relevant because people are still fighting for  what they believe in today.

    Essay

No i do not think that smart phones would become a digital because there is many reasons why its not a good idea. The first reason is your personal business on your phone like your credit card information. If you just so happen to loose that cell phone one day someone else would be able to access that information if they find it.

NFC should not be supported because its not just credit cards that people hold in their wallets, sometimes people hold their social security card in their wallets, and their insurance card and things of that nature. So if NFC were to be put into action what would people do with the rest of their personal things. They would then have to carry around a wallet and a cell phone that holds their credit cards. So there would be no use in both when you could just have the wallet that holds everything.

Some people may think that its a good idea because it cuts out the hassel of looking for credit cards and things but its not that much of and advantage. People would just have to think ahead and think that the NFC is really not good to use because of all the disadvantages it has. Its a good idea overall but its just some faults that need attention.

Question of the Day: What do you think is the most important feature of a tablet computer? How will this change the way we learn?

I think that the internet is the most important feature of a tablet computer because you can learn a lot of things from the internet. This would change the way we learn because we would be able to get the answers to our questions faster than a book and it would inform us with things that a book may not say or have.
